A Harden service station has attracted drivers from all across the Riverina and even Canberra with some of the lowest fuel prices in the country.
At Ultra Harden, drivers can fill up on E10 for just $1.21 a litre, nearly 70 cents cheaper than in the nation’s capital.
In Canberra, the average fuel price is $1.86, while in Wagga, the cheapest E10 sits around $1.69, and in Griffith, it ranges between $1.78 and $1.80.
While the prices may seem insane, Ultra service manager Harry Singh said they were set to stay for at least the next fortnight, as people from as far as Canberra were making the trip for the discounts.
“It’s a promotion for our head company to bring people out to Harden,” he said.
“We want to reach as many people as we possibly can out here. People are travelling nearly 100 kilometres from Young and Canberra to fill up.
“We’ve been really busy since the prices were set. We haven’t confirmed when or if the prices will change, but we expect them to last until around 13 October.”
The extremely low fuel price has been set to coincide with the popular Harden Kite Festival, taking place on 11 October.
Mr Singh said he expected hundreds of customers to come through the station’s doors over the next two weeks to take advantage of the special offer.
“We’ve only had these prices for a little bit of time and it’s already been terrific. So many people have come, and it’s been busy all day.”
A person in Harden filling up an average 45-litre tank on E10 can expect to save $29.25; meanwhile, compared with Wagga, the difference is about $21.
Wagga resident Jack Stock, who learnt about the prices on Monday morning, said the drive to Harden was well worth the effort.
“I already like the drive to Harden, it’s a great town, but for $30 less on fuel, you’ll catch me out there several days a week, I reckon.”
At the time of writing, fuel prices at Ultra Harden are $1.21 for E10, $1.22 for ULP 91, $1.46 for 98 RON and $1.36 for diesel.
