Ten people were taken into custody and 11 drink drivers apprehended as part of Operation Unite at the weekend — a national operation targeting alcohol-related violence and offences.
Operational Commander, Superintendent Corey Heldon said that while the weather was cold, a small number of people enjoyed the entertainment precincts around Canberra.
“The message behind this operation was to remind young people in particularly about responsible drinking and for people to take accountability of their own behaviour. We are happy with the results of this operation and the behaviour of patrons and licensees,” Superintendent Heldon said.
Traffic Operations detected a learner driver for driving 57km/hour over the speed limit.
Police across Australia and New Zealand were involved in Operation Unite which commenced on Friday, May 13. The primary objective of this Operation Unite was to remind young people about the risks associated with underage drinking as well as target assault and violence associated with excessive alcohol consumption.
ACT Policing’s intelligence-led Alcohol Crime Targeting Team was also out in force. More than 100 inspections on licensed premises were conducted across the Territory. No breaches were recorded.
26 people were arrested as part of December’s Operation Unite.
