Hey all,
Just wondering if anyone else heard the earth shattering KABOOM at about 9pm out Belconnen way last night and perhaps knows its cause.
Was quite something.

I fail to see the connection between fireworks and explosives.
One looks pretty and makes fart noises, one explodes destructively.
Back in the day, no one stopped me from buying 1/2 dozen packets of sparklers, a roll of gaffa tape and a can of gravox….MMM lets ban them as well…

I heard it as well. It was pretty loud..
This was not a ‘firework’, of the legal or illegal kind. It was a proper explosive. It has nothing to do with fireworks so all the do gooders can STFU.
Sounds to me like Belconnen has turned into a subversive terrorist training camp. Call the hotline (http://www.nationalsecurity.gov.au/) and let them know.
I live in Belco and have heard a few enormous BOOMS over the past few months. Someone is cooking up something!
I have seen a homemade diet Coke & Mentos bomb go off with far more impact than the average fireworks so lets ban them too.
We live in Flynn ad quite often hear loud bangs and booms coming from the Charnwood area. God knows what they get up to in the depths of Charnwood at night…
I think a RiotACT get together where we compare bomb making techniques and compete for the bbiggest bang….
Don’t even need anything as complex as acetylene – a 1.25L coke bottle with some dry ice jammed in it and left for a while will make a bang that can be heard echoing off the mountains around Kambah. So I’ve heard.
oh my! loud bang! must ban fireworks! Why must the answer to everything be to ban it?
Best way to make a big bang legally would be a balloon filled with acetylene/O2 mixture rather than using domestic fireworks as they don’t have the punch, if you ask me.
There was a loud bang out Kambah East way in the early hours of last night.

Didn’t hear your explosion, but the Higgins Shopping Centre had its month old Australia Post letter box destroyed during the week, so it appears there are still plenty of fireworks in circulation. Come on John Hargreaves, get Cabinet to ban them before someone is seriously injured.
Does a combination of gunpowder, kerosene, petrol and styrofoam count as fireworks?
