A 15-year-old allegedly embarked on a violent crime spree around Woden where he tried to steal three cars at knifepoint, during which he also injured a woman.

He allegedly entered a store in Westfield Woden, then used a wrench to break a display case and steal phones at around 5:20 pm on Tuesday (11 November), an ACT Policing spokesperson said.

He allegedly fled on foot when a member of the public confronted him.

But shortly afterwards, the teen allegedly tried to steal three vehicles at knifepoint, injuring one woman and throwing another man out of his car in the process.

“Multiple police attended the Woden area; however, the teen was unable to be located,” the police spokesperson said.

“Police stopped a Transport Canberra bus after receiving information that the teenager was onboard, but he was not able to be located.”

The spokesperson said officers spoke to multiple victims, forensically examined three vehicles and discovered a large knife in one of the vehicles.

This knife is alleged to have been left there by the teen during the attempted carjacking.

Police then identified the 15-year-old as the alleged attempted robber, and he was arrested in Ainslie on Tuesday night.

“Officers also seized four phones believed to have been stolen from the store earlier in the day,” the spokesperson said.

The teen was charged with three counts of attempted aggravated robbery and single counts of intentionally wounding, common assault and possessing a knife without a reasonable excuse.

He faced the ACT Childrens Court on Wednesday (12 November) where he did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody by Magistrate Amy Begley.

He will return to court later this month.
