16-year-old allegedly punched, bit police officer during arrest

A teenage girl is scheduled to face court after she allegedly punched and bit a police officer while being arrested, resulting in the officer being taken to hospital.

Police went to a home to check on the welfare of a 16-year-old girl on Monday afternoon (1 September) when they heard she was at the Erindale shops, an ACT Policing spokesperson said.

They found and spoke to the girl, who allegedly attempted to leave when police stopped her.

She then allegedly assaulted an officer several times, including by punching, kicking and biting them.

The officer was taken to the Canberra Hospital for treatment.

The girl was arrested and charged with five counts of assaulting a frontline community service provider and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

She was scheduled to face the ACT Children’s Court on Tuesday (2 September).
