ACT Policing has welcomed 22 new officers to the ranks following an attestation ceremony at the Australian Federal Police College in Barton today (Friday, April 15).
In the first attestation for this year, 17 men and five women were officially sworn in as Constables of Police in front of family and friends.
The new officers range in age from 21 to 43, with more than half originating from the ACT. They bring with them a wide range of experience and skills from previous employments including ACT Policing Operations and roles in the medical and legal fields.
Chief Police Officer for the ACT Roman Quaedvlieg congratulated the new officers for completing the challenging 24 week course.
“As recruits, they are mentally and physically tested to ensure they are ready to serve the Canberra community on the frontline upon graduation,” Chief Police Officer Quaedvlieg said.
Constable Kyle Saltmarsh was awarded the Commissioner’s Award for Excellence in Recruit Training for his demonstrated excellence in all elements of the program, including teamwork, leadership, communication, academic achievement, physical training and commitment to the values of the AFP.
The new officers will complete a two week rotation with Traffic Operations before being deployed to stations within ACT Policing.
