I think it’s worth considering that unless the cops have extremely good intelligence, they’re not necessarily going to know in advance the exact quantities and types of drugs people may be holding, they’re not going to know the villains state of mind, and they won’t be certain about whether weapons may or may not be involved.

Far better to assume the worst and take all necessary precautions, rather than get brassed up by some dickhead dealer and die in the street. The wife of one of the cops involved made the same point very well in the original thread related to this matter, and I totally agree with her.

Having said all that, I fully agree that all the resources allocated to combating the use of marijuana is wasted. It should be legalised, taxed, and quality controlled like other drugs such as alcohol and tobacco.

In one action, it removes a criminal enterprise entirely and brings in a buttload of new taxable dollars and also creates a new legit industry and most importantly, frees up previous police resources being wasted.

I think you are doing the police a dis service though, surely they would have reasonably accurate intel to make a stop like they did?

The intel would have (that’s “have” folks, not “of”) come from either an undercover operation, a tipoff from a civilian, or most likely by far, a dob in by another crim,

If it was a crim, the info would’ve been provided to get revenge, or to eliminate a rival, or to negotiate a reduced sentence, or some other salutary reason, so a wise operator would only trust it so far.

And even if you have the most trustworthy source, the target of the operation is likely to be a dimwitted and erratic individual who may be under the influence of certain substances, and who may react unpredictably when under stress. Even if your golden intel says “Dave Dealer is an upright citizen who has never used a shooter in the past and he will stop and put his hands up at the first sign of trouble”, would *you* bet *your* life on that information?

I wouldn’t. I would use overwhelming force to ensure the safety of myself, my troops and any civilians who happened to be in the area. As far as possible I would keep civilians well clear before, during and after the gig. Any other approach would possibly risk the lives of the villain, the troops and the civilians, and no sensible commander would put his arse in that position.

Back in the day when I used to smoke rollies a 50g pack of Drum would generally last me around a week. On the basis of similar regular use of about 6 joints per day, 2 keys of dope would be close to a years supply. That would be far enough for me.

Still, yeah, there are bad dudes out there who are far more deserving of attention than some sad shmoe with a bag of weed in the boot of his mobile wreck.
