Simon Corbell announced the recipients of the ACT Heritage Grants.
A total of $329,000 is being divided amongst a number of programs and groups in order to help conserve Canberra’s heritage.
“Canberra has a great story to tell and I am pleased to see the diverse range of projects included in this year’s grants program, as we celebrate Canberra’s centenary,” Mr Corbell said.
“Today’s announcement was held at Canberra Railway Museum in Kingston, the home of one of the grant recipients – the Australian Railway Historical Society.
“It received three ACT Heritage Grants to restore a railway sleeping car, upgrade the Canberra Railway Museum’s historic photographic display, and to install steps to view the cab of Locomotive 1210.”
The program also funded an archaeological excavation of a site containing evidence of early contact between European and Aboriginal communities in the ACT, conservation works to a number of heritage listed properties, a pioneer families exhibition, interpretive signage, as well as a number of events in the 2014 Heritage Festival.
“The ACT Heritage Grants Program demonstrates the commitment of the ACT Government to working in partnership with the community,” Mr Corbell said.
“Together, we can help promote, protect and conserve our unique heritage for future generations.”
The ACT Heritage Grants Program is an annual funding program administered by the ACT Government. It is the primary source of funding that assists individuals and community groups to record, conserve and celebrate the history and heritage of the ACT.
