A 54-year-old Page man with six previous convictions for drink driving was apprehended on Friday night with an alcohol content of 0.192, just one of 47 people caught in one week.
About 11 pm on Friday, November 25, police were on mobile patrol in Page when they conducted a traffic stop on a white Toyota Hilux. The driver underwent a roadside screening test which returned a positive reading.
The man was taken to Belconnen Police Station where he returned a breath alcohol reading of 0.192. As the man is on a 0.00 licence, he was issued with an Immediate Suspension Notice and will be summonsed to attend the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
Superintendent Kylie Flower from Traffic Operations says the results are alarming and should be of great concern to the Canberra community.
“It concerns me that we have had 47 people caught for drink driving in one week alone. The danger these people place the rest of the community in by their actions is disgraceful. ACT Policing is focusing on drink driving for December and is also participating in Operation RAID – the removal of all impaired drivers,” said Superintendent Flower.
“If you decide to drink or take drugs and then drive, expect ACT Policing to catch you. It is that simple,” she said.
In the past week, from November 21 to November 28, forty seven (47) people have been caught drink driving in the ACT. Of those, 14 are on 0.00 licences and 11 people have at least one previous conviction.
