78-year-old man killed in Barton Highway crash with truck

A man has died after a crash involving a truck and a car on the Barton Highway this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Jeir – about 30 kilometres south of Yass – just after 1:40 pm on Tuesday (12 August) following reports of a collision between the two vehicles.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the 78-year-old driver of the car at the scene, but he died from his injuries.

The truck driver, a man believed to be in his 40s, was also assessed by paramedics before being taken to Yass Hospital for mandatory testing.

Police from Hume Police District have established a crime scene and investigations into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.

The Barton Highway is currently closed in both directions between Nanima Road and Murrumbateman Road, with motorists advised to avoid the area.
