The Guardian Australia is in search of Australia’s best cycling city
They are suggesting that Melbourne and Adelaide are the best cycling cities in Australia!
I would think that title should be hotly contested by Canberra.

I hope we fail to qualify. Then the government can stop wasting vast sums of money on the ridiculous notion of bike paths. What’s more, they remove on-road cycle lanes completely, and give drivers that extra bit of width (thus making it safer for all). They could even use the money they save on reducing CTP on our rego, so everyone wins.

I think you’ll find that Canberra doesn’t have a monopoly on such an attitude.
I’m sure you’re right, but there does seem to be a particularly high proportion of aggressive drivers here. I say this after spending a weekend driving around Sydney a few weeks back, and noticing that pedestrians could generally cross the road and the drivers appeared to accept this as part of life in a city and not let it ruin their whole day or try to get revenge by chasing the pedestrians down with their car.
I suppose one can be more forgiving when you never go faster than 40.
Can’t speak for Adelaide, but Melbourne is far better. Beautiful rides around beach road and the on road bike lines have a superior design placed in better locations.

It might depend whether you mean for cycle-commuting, or for a leisurely Sunday-afternoon cycle…
There are quite a few car drivers in ACT who think it’s their duty to run cyclists off the road whenever they see them (granted, perhaps one might occasionally be tempted to think some of them deserve it, likewise for a lot of car drivers!) – until this attitude is effectively addressed, Canberra is unlikely to be the best place for cycle-commuting.

I dunno, we’ve got some lovely place to ride with dedicated bike paths. Around the lake is a good example, and it’s a small enough track that even weekend riders with double-chins and wobbly thighs could comfortably do it in a couple of hours.

Yep wouldn’t be hard to be better at cycling than the cyclists on the road in Canberra
1. Call someone from Canberra who has something to do with cycling.
2. Ask him about the cycling.
3. Ask him about politicians, hahah, because that’s Canberra.
4. Collect Walkley.
