They’ve only started putting them up over the last sixish years.
I’ve seen motorbikes and cars on bike paths, and called the police on both occasions. Nil response. Would I do it a third time? No.

Sorry cyclists, but riding as fast as you whereever you want really isn’t going to work out.
Simple. Separate cyclists from pedestrians/road traffic/everyone else.
This is what the Government did in a Southside location which caused (6 years ago) a serious accident involving myself on a mountain bike that clipped the side of the bar and wall (not going fast by the way) with me flying through the air landing on my Head and Chin (teeth were loose but saved), sucked out of a straw for 2 months with a fractured jaw that never got seen to at the hospital (most people watched and kept driving to their destinations on a Saturday morning) despite me walking out into the traffic concussed and blacking out.
I recall a long line of vehicles swerving around me. A few minutes later (after a car missed me, according to a guy on a bike who came along about 5 minutes later whom gave me first aid and called my Family to come and collect me (after I refused an ambo) out of all those vehicles who continued on their merry way to go shopping, a beautiful Nurse did slow down and asked if I required assistance while the guy on the bike was getting me to put my head between my legs.
I now “know” the shocking intense pain that cyclists and motorcylists endure with head injuries (the throbbing of one’s jaw up into their ears is the worst pain ever endured; Childbirth a breeze for 12 hours)!
Facial bruising and face covered with bitumen rash and sores for 2 months nothing in comparison to the jaw pain and blacking out over the next week LOL!
I never did get the guy’s contact details to thank him; anyway if he is reading; thank you most kindly and greatly; you did save my life.
Anyway, the accident reminded me to always assist every person (and I have been the first on to get help for 3 vehicles in Tuggeranong with injured people) I ever come across regardless of what I happen to have on my personal agenda at that time.
I can’t but think that a lot of the ‘issues’ that motorists have with cyclists are very similar to the ‘issues’ that cyclists have with pedestrians.
Sorry cyclists, but riding as fast as you whereever you want really isn’t going to work out.
These things are bloody dangerous because at certain times of the day if the sun is at the right angle you can easily not see them. Its like putting armco along a highway but at certain points curve it in and cut half the road off. Imagine how many car crashes you would have if you did that.

And work out how to get pedestrians to not move INTO the way of cyclists (being vehicles), not walk on the right of the path, and dog leads not be stretched across the path. I can dream 🙂
The INTO is critical, the road rules have no problem with being in the way for as long as you need to.

How about educating cyclists not to ride 2+ abreast on busy arterial roads? Or clogging the entire left-hand lane of a 2 lane road because they need to ride in their ‘pack’ of 10+ on a Saturday morning…. Fair’s fair.

These bars are certainly a rubbish design which are supposed to be vehicle restriction devices so that cars do not use the paths.But in this location?A painted bollard in the middle of the path and at the sides is all that is needed which doesn’t restrict the width of the path. David Hembrow’s Blog does a comparison between Bollards in the Netherlands and ones in England . This ones in England resemble several devices around Canberra. But you certainly don’t see these roll bars any where else in the world.
These types of constriction points are ridiculous and, in my opinion, do more harm than good.

They discourage drivers from using the path as a road, and encourage cyclists to have headons.
Has someone been using this path to get to the dirt roads on Yarramundi Reach ?
