The Canberra Times informs us that the National Portrait Gallery has hit a quarter of a million visitors since opening in December.
Apparently this exceeds expectations.

Well I’ve been and quite enjoyed it. The inside/outside cafe is quite nice too.
and its FREEZING in there…. even if it was worth looking at the portraits, its so damn cold in the gallery, that you dont want to stay long!
I thought the ones they had on display at old parli house was much better.
Underground parking was full, to the point that the line of traffic trying to get into the (full) carpark was snaking back onto King Edward Terrace and blocking the pedestrian crossing.
been there, done that. disappointed by far. the old portraits don’t fit into the architecture.
Why do they use reflective glass over the paintings??????
The National Portrait Gallery is located on King Edward Terrace, Parkes, in the Parliamentary Precinct. The public carpark can be accessed via Parkes Place. Parking spaces for people with mobility difficulties are provided in the underground carpark close to the public access lifts. Parking is free; please validate your parking voucher at the cloakroom.
Isn’t there an underground carpark there ? I was sure I saw an entry to it the other day.
They would have had more visitors if there was anywhere at all to park around the galleries.
I was against pay parking in the Triangle, but after driving around for hours the other day, and seeing all the people parked illegally on verges etc, I am in favour of it.
I hope the construction near the gallery is going to be a 10 storey carpark.
