Finally the ultimate use of geospatial data!
There’s an online map of election day sausage sizzles!
Cake stalls and vegetarian options for the unaustralians and perverts are also mapped.
But we do not approve.

None in south Woden. Makes me glad I lodged a pre-poll vote.
There is always one in Farrer, I’d be surprised if the map is accurate…
There *is* one in Farrer, but they didn’t know about the map. I know, because I posted the link to my work colleagues, and one of those is one of the organisers for the Farrer site 🙂 “I didn’t know this was around.”

The map does let you screen for vegetarian
Yes, but when I click on the places they don’t mention any vegetarian fare, except for one which says something along the lines of “possibly vegetarian fare”. I could be served a slice of bread for all I know, maybe with some onions if they haven’t been sizzling in meat juice…
Don’t really feel like buying a cake either.
Mmmm…onions cooked in meat juice…or bacon fat….oh yeah, baby…I wouldn’t have them any other way. 🙂

My expert analysis says that the Northsiders either have high demand for sausage or love their sausage more than us southerners. I’m pleased that my local polling booth down south will have the option..
I’m a Northsider, and I guarantee that the sausage-fest is all the rage in my area of operations.

Most sausage sizzles and cake stalls are run by community organisations.
They usually do pretty much the minimum as it costs way too much if they are stuck with stuff they can’t sell, let alone wheeling out a second bbq to cook a small amount of vego stuff.
Sorry, but that is the reality.
I understand that. Really I wish the Hare Krishna food tent would be at one of them. I’d go place my vote anywhere in the electorate if I knew they’d be around.
Which begs the question, do they still go around to events selling their wonderful fare?

queue-less pre poll booths
Not at City Pre-Poll – during the lunchtime rush we’ve been issuing votes by the hundreds and we’ve had queues of 20+ people as we try to get through everyone.

You make it sound like the dietary equivalent of chladmydia.

Bloody vegos, who wants onions not cooked in meat juice? You’re just wrong!

Will the sausages be kosher, halal, jhatka, vegetarian and suitable for Rise Up voters?
All I’m after vegetarian sausages, or some kind of vegetarian fare. If anyone knows of any in the Inner North or inner Belco area then post it up here. Otherwise, I might just have to swing by Kingsland in Dickson on my way home from the polling booth…and where’s the sense of community in that?

Which leads me to my next point of suggesting pre-poll voting should be open for everybody not just those who can’t make it.
I personally think it’s a waste of a Saturday when you can do it in queue-less pre poll booths during the weekday. Have always done it in my lunch break. No queues, no hassles, no wasted Saturday morning. I’d rather walk my dog or sleep in.
And you know why those booths are queue-less? Because everyone else is voting on Saturday!!!
Seriously though… the answer is cost. Plain and simple.

Not sure about North vs South, but seems the demographic is changing.
At the Cotter Dam open day, the queue for the coffee van was many times longer than the one for the charity sausage and egg sizzle – which is kinda sad

As discussed in another forum I frequent… what is the point of voting on election day? I have never voted on an election day and have always pre-poll voted. I don’t even understand why the AEC have bothered posting criteria for pre poll voting when htey never check your excuse.

What about the sense of participation and belonging to a community? Not to mention the sausage sizzles. Lines aren’t that long, you go for a walk with the kids, weathers usually good.
Don’t let me discourage you from your point of view though. By all means, keep your grumpy butt at home. We won’t miss you.
Let’s just hope they actually HAVE the sausage sizzles this time around.
Last time they had signs everywhere, but no damn food. I then made a point to leave immediately and not vote. Didn’t even get fined for it either. I guess the AEC shares the feeling.

Is anyone able to advise on which locations will be selling butcher’s sausages rather than the gross standard ones from coles and woolies?
Indeed! Harrison School will have sausages from First Choice Butchery, Gungahlin. They do a top snag. See you there 🙂

It’s a sausage sizzle, not the Fat Duck…

But what about the sausages?! How could you even suggest that we should reject an excuse for a sausage sizzle. And cakes. Cakes!

Surely Canberra needs a giant Sausage of Democracy?
Preferably in the parliamentary triangle.
Tourists would come in droves to witness and marvel at the giant sausage.
Especially since sausages are made out of lips and a#$%&oles. Ah the Great Political Sausage.
Surely Canberra needs a giant Sausage of Democracy?
Aren’t they the things hanging off Skywhale?
So do you support the proposal to send all vegetarians out to sea in a sieve?
Is it sad that I just decided to go to a more distant polling place?
No. No it is not. I like my democracy delicious!
