If you’re after a night of fairytales with a twist, The Magic Hour is for you. Ursula Yovich (Australia, Jindabyne, The Secret River, Redfern, The Gods of Wheat Street) plays a whole cast of characters, updated and dropped into bleak Australian life in this performance described as Little Red Riding Hood meets Trainspotting.
Prepare for a night of fairytales by the campfire.
First there is Carla – a grandmother of a rebellious teenager who has gone missing. The girl, always sporting a red hoodie is of course Little Red Riding Hood.
We also meet Rosie, in the not so fairytale like setting of a bar. She talks of her passion for spinning wheels and the strange man who reads her fortune. Meet Rumpelstiltzkin.
The Magic Hour celebrates the unsung hero’s of the Australian landscape – mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, sisters, daughters and all their suppressed counterparts in fairy tales from so long ago.
