Founding CBS member, Dean Edgecombe and the Seventh Sons will be hosting this month’s blues jam on Sunday 19th October 2014 at The Harmonie German Club in Narrabundah. Show starts at 2pm & wraps up around 5.30pm.
Dean Edgecombe and the Seventh Sons features some of Canberra’s leading Blues musicians who first got together in 2000 to realise a shared desire to present the early electric Blues sounds of Chicago, Texas, Memphis and Kansas City to modern audiences. The band has mostly kept it pretty casual, gigging in the blues friendly rooms around Canberra with a fairly fluid line up of players.
Over time, Dean introduced some of his own songs into the set. These are available on the album “Handful of Shadows” which was released in 2011 to critical acclaim and solid radio airplay on Community Blues programs around Australia.
The band line up has now stabilised around the players on the recording with Dave Blanken on guitar, Leo Joseph on keyboards, James Hoogstad on tenor sax and John ‘Murv’ Cowell on drums. With Leo absent overseas, Steve Hartnett of the Backbeat Drivers will be filling in on harmonica and vocals.
The Seventh Sons add a sense of fun and great musicianship to their set. Most of all they make sure the Blues gets the respect it deserves.
They will be followed by some of the finest blues musicians in the Canberra region jamming together.
So bring your voices, bring your instruments & bring your dancing shoes for the best afternoon’s entertainment.
The Canberra Blues Society (Inc) is a ‘not-for-profit’ collective of like-minded individuals who are passionate about the art of traditional and contemporary blues music.
