DIY Wotz on Guide for the weekend of 21-OCT-05

Hackett pre-school is celebrating its 40th Birthday on Saturday, 2pm-4pm.
I’m not entirely sure at what occurs at a pre-school’s bday party but I imagine there may be candy.

Let’s not forget Won’s magnificent (2nd) attempt at “Blithe Spirit”.

Two of Oz’s finest acts going round at the moment head to Canberra this weekend.

The Herd well and truly blew out the cobwebs with two sold out shows last weekend in Sydney (Metro) and Melbourne (Hi Fi Bar), complete with crowds singing along to songs only released the week before. They’re playing Saturday night at the ANU Bar, supported by locals D’Opus and Roshambo (tickets $12 + bf or $15 on the door).

Sodastream, also on the promo trail for a new CD, will be playing in an intimate one-off show at Toast on Sunday night. If you haven’t heard of these guys, you really ought to. Their melancholy folk pop songs soaked in double bass and guitar are perfect for anything except breaking up.

Apparently this Saturday night there’s a Canberra Nara candle festival happening at which sixty students from Nara will perform

Show starts at 4pm. $5 entry or $7 with cd. Sound Underground is a new record store located at 8 Wignall Place Belconnen (out the back of the Pot Belly)

Depending on the weather, those folks migrating between Church and In Blue on Friday night will either get wet or catch Green Screen: 9 bands, a DJ and some films and speeches and stuff.

It’s in Garema Place, starts at 5.00 PM, ends at midnight and features, in rough running order:

The Family Jools, Quagmire, Fire on the Hill, Velvet Jones, Konrad Lenz and the Spirits of the Dead, ANTIFISH, Heidi and her Imaginary Friends, Brisk, Meloncosmic and Rant.
