I noticed last week that the new chain link fencing behind the fitness centre actually closes off the small northside carpark on the ground level at Belconnen Mall – does anyone know why or what’s going there?

that’s going to be a narrow block then, and significantly change the visual aspects there, not to mention traffic flow around that corner!
I believe that the site has recently been sold by Westfield to a third party.
When Westfield originally received development approval for the Mall expansion, one of the conditions was the development of apartments on the site now fenced off. Westfield received development approval in 2012 for three towers of 24, 16 and 12 levels.
Rather than develop the apartments themselves, Westfield have sold (or about to sell) the sites to a third part developer. My understanding is that the sites need to be developed by a set date (2019 maybe?) so sales and construction would have to commence in the not too distant future to achieve that deadline.
