Hi Canberrans.
Does anyone know of startups in the ACT, particularly firms that aim to grow beyond the ACT, begun by folks with a vocational education background of any sort? Or are they all by university and research types.

Hey there,
We are Pine Fire Studios, a games development company based in Canberra and export our content world wide using digital distribution platforms like Steam.
The entire Pine Fire team completed their education at the Academy of Interactive Entertainment (AIE) Which is a vocational educator and are one of the many small teams produced by the AIE here in Canberra.
Later this year we are planning on moving to “Games+” which is a co-working space specifically targeted at interactive media, headed by the AIE.
Hi DSK
A good way to find out would be by attending the First Wednesday Connect meetings held by the Canberra Innovation Network (Next meeting is 1 June 2016)

I often attend, and find everyone there to be focused upon ideas and how to help each other, rather than what each other’s background is. I’m sure you’d feel welcome there :).
I’m not sure if it qualifies but you might want to check out the canberra startup that was bought out by Wargaming – a russian company that makes the games World of Tanks, World of Warships and World of Planes.
Your request is somewhat vague, I have a trade background and started a service business which while primarily based in ACT provides services nationwide. It’s quite boring though and people only seem to be interested in ‘cutting edge’ businesses like those putting logos on drink bottles.
