Now if I get to Melbourne by sunset Saturday after recovering from tonight’s anticipated hangover I can see decent sets from Conway Savage supporting the Dumb Earth at their CD launch at the Northcote Social Club, shop and pony up for Maurice Frawley and the Yardhands at the Greyhound on Sunday, pay whatever it costs to get in to both, taxi fares and still have change from what the folkie would have cost to see four days of six pipers a-piping, five fiddlers a-fiddling, four belly dancers a-shimmying…and so on ad nauseum…
And still be home in time to see the Fuellers at the Phoenix on Monday night…wonder which is the wisest choice.
When are the organisers going to realise that “freak folk” is a new and valid genre and put something a bit more relevant to modern tastes [eg in the manner of Sufjan Stevens, Devendra Banhart, Josephine Foster…then it might be worth attending in spite of tangoing public servants and the like
eating chocolate and drinking beer in the name of a religion I think needs to be destroyed… I love being a hypocrite
