Just goes to show it’s not just the ‘merkins who are idiots.

I wonder how worried we’d all be if it said “Burn the Bible”.
Just a thought.

I see ‘Bub Karan’ Possibly a bogan with a habit of giving new spelling to old names making a birth announcement?

Our Korin?
Obviously it is a statement about the Corin Dam, and the fact that it belongs to the people of the ACT. That should put those infidels in NSW in no doubt that we in the ACT take our water supplies very, very seriously.

I downloaded a copy of the koran today, if you want I’ll burn you a copy.
Very clever! :o)
woops, RA doesn’t seem to like that scrip. Oddly, it showed up when I pasted it, just not when I posted it.
Back on topic, it appears not only are arseholes everywhere, but they use public transport to get there.

…inscribed in the qu’ran. the anglocised spelling itself…
I thought that any spelling in latin charaters (i.e. not ??????) is anglicised?

Dear CLown Killer,
please start a regular column on explaining Canberra’s community art installations. Your clear explanation of the context and intellectualisation of the above installation is a revelation to me and I will look differently at these things now.
I second that.
Re idiots, didn’t Jesus the Magical Sky Fairy say “For the idiots always you have with you”?

I thought the first word was “OUR”?
so did i, and immediately transposed the bogan ‘love it or leave’ [often of ‘our flag’] to maybe ‘read it or die’ in an islamic portrayal of integration into a foreign society, clasped by the embrace of the shelter, itself a powerful symbol of acceptance and nurturing; while at once of course giving the nurturers the finger, referencing the loping of hands as punishment in the foreign [to the viewer] system inscribed in the qu’ran. the anglocised spelling itself is also a cunning ploy by the artist to ingratiate the message into our psyche and firmly keep us in our place as ‘viewer’, subordinated to the ‘artist’, while concurrently burning its deeper message of defiance into our brains, referenced closely by the use of ashen spray colour.
I thought it said “Our Ronan”, and it was sprayed by a “Boyzone” fan.
A dyslexic pyromaniac who wants to see one of our southern forests go up in flames?
What it clearly says is ‘BUR In KORAN’ which is either saying that the writer has a bindi-eye wedged in the pages of his or her Koran, probably close to the spine and difficult to remove, though if the writer was to think proactively and head on down to the dollar shop he or she could avail him or herself of a cheap pair of Chinese-made tweezers, but I digress, as you’ve probably worked out by now, assuming of course that you are still following my drift, or, it could be in a language from one of the upper Pakistani tribes near the border of Afghanistan, and simply means, “BUY Your KORAN’ a warning to those who would seek to steal a copy from the residence of a local muslim, or alternatively, and I use the word advisedly, it could be an advertising method employed by the local Koran shop, which may well be only a short walk down the road, not immediately obvious to the passer-by but etched firmly in the minds of all the true believers who pass this way.
Whaddya reckon?

I thought that was another one of Stanhope’s public art installations.
The crumpled pages of the discarded Canberra Times referencing the fleeting passage of our daily lives. The curved embrace of the bus shelter – at once promising sanctuary from the elements but delivering a cold, hard, gum defiled bench – in itself a commentary on contemporary politics … and the pair of discarded beer bottles – almost as if in afterthought – A contrary statement of admonishment and camaraderie – abandoned in a manifestation of littering that is almost genteel and yet whispering to us hints of perhaps some celebration: a night out, an occasion marked … but then the eye is naturally drawn to the centre of the piece … we are left to ponder the startling message: is it extolling us to “Burn a Koran”? Or has “Burt Koran” left is mark. The ambiguity, enhanced by the delicate nuance of application by dysfunctional aerosol leaves us to reflect, not only on our own foibles but also on the very nature of the spiritual and secular society within which we all live.
