insects
letterboxes
fences
balconies
veggie gardens
clothes lines
fruit trees
What lovely suggestions! Trust a newbie to provide some non-cynical Canberra-centric ideas. I really like the clothesline suggestion. You can tell a lot about a place by its clothes lines. And Australian clothes lines are unique.
‘Things that don’t belong’.
Introduced species, be they flora or fauna.
-Concrete Action bus stops that were painted by school kids in the 80s
-Suburban grow-ops
-Sites of Todd Carney incidents
-Booners
-Letter boxes destroyed by fireworks
-Famous public servants

Lunchtime Theatrics
By this I mean capture images of those people we see as we wander around the city centres at lunch time. The street performers, the sandsculpture builders, the evangelical preachers…
Crazy Woden cat ladies?
Photographs of the sky/landscapes/water!
Dodgy building construction – you could spend a while at Kingston foreshore for starters then move to Gungahlin … years of fun. The lawyers would love you.
More graffiti art – I particularly liked the one of “Rudd the Dudd” that has been spray painted around Lyneham.
Flowers! I loved the photos of floriade by the chick with the flash camera.
Sporting events … even though I’m not really very sporty, I’m contantly amazed with what events are going on in & around Canberra.
Places to go in Canberra – lots of hidden gems like Gibralter Rocks, Booroomba Rocks and around the lake.

– Those switch/power boxes with paintings on (like the one near Malkara school with the weird balloon ppl on it that give me the creeps!)

Hidden Heritage?
Hints of Canberra’s past?
Oh you mean piles of rubble that used to be Canberra’s past.

That brings back memories. I got sick of cleaning mold-covered food containers that were stinking up the fridge and started throwing them out, no matter how expensive they looked and how much cutlery was in the same bag. Yes, it was me that threw your Pyrex dish out.
My idea, building on Growling Ferret #4, streetscapes of McMansions, rows of 5 star-rated energy-suckers with no eves and black roof tiles.
Cyclist blatantly breaking road rules in front of law abiding, tax-paying, decent, God-fearing, clean living motorists.
ACT Govt Community Consultation in action – because until we’ve seen the photos, we’ll never believe it actually happens.
Canberra Ghosts.
Filty shopping centre toilets.
Tacky bogan roadside memorials to human roadkill.

Mis-spellings on signs.
A bit OT, but I recently saw a skill tester game with a big sign “Skill Thruster!” above it.
– Those switch/power boxes with paintings on (like the one near Malkara school with the weird balloon ppl on it that give me the creeps!)
– I like the ‘cars’ theme mentioned above … romantic/ambient/photographically creative takes on burnt out, crashed, abandoned vehicles
– birds of the ACT
– our new suburbs emerging
– Camberra old and new – interpret as you will, incorporate the contract in ur photo
– markets
– hidden Canberra

roundabouts could be a theme. or illegal parking?
Fine, then. “Taverns”?
Building on Chop71’s ideas:
– Smallest backyard in Gungahlin
– Thuggies on the run
– Lipstick on a pig (i.e. Belconnen)
– Worst Lexus SUV driving in Weston
– Cars on cinderblocks in one street in Woden
– Emo gatherings in Civic

Tableaus – you know those scenes that just make you wonder “what is the story behind THAT scene?”
Canberra’s Best Architecture.
Canberra’s Worst Architecture.
Cafe culture
Worst kept verge.
Workplace afternoon teas.
Passive-aggressive signs in workplace kitchens.
The interiors of workplace fridges.
Context photos – photos that tell a story, as opposed to a cut and paste representation of an object.

Thuggies action shots – like an episode of cops

I like this idea. I happen to think one of mates might just have the winning “backyard”
Your favourite government office building.
(Someone needs to give the security guards something to do!)
Your favourite ex-Prime Minister’s residence – Google workers need not apply.
Sorry, I am out of ideas, haha.
+1 for the alleyway suggestion, though, I really like the idea of capturing unexpected aspects of Canberra.
