However, given the Government’s propensity to fund operations that supposedly curb anti-social behaviour, wouldn’t that incident have been the perfect opportunity for a member of the AFP to curb such behaviour in a bunch of young people and perhaps send them on a different path than that of over-consumption of alcohol and participation in destruction of property. Drive them home to their parents at 2am or let them get a taste of things to come with a night in the very hospitable ACT watch house.

A nice idea, but very naive.

So lone officer confronts 15 teenagers. They say “Get fucked, pig.” Nearest backup is 5-7 minutes away. What would his next move be?

Human Rights anyone? Police are going to go out and target and harrass drunk people. If you get annoyed, ten of them will jump on you and charge you with whatever they feel like.

Sounds like someone can’t handle their drink and got locked up for intox and disorderly. Pace yourself next time and you might have a better night.

If you’re not doing anything wrong, you won’t have any problems with the police. Being drunk in a public place is an offense..

I did get the feeling that the officers lining the RBT on Commonwealth Ave were a bit bored with it, given that the officer requested I had to sing happy birthday into the breath testing unit.. Being breath tested twice in one year is a record too, adds to the once over the past 8 odd years on the road.

Hhhhmmmm, so those 10-15 drunk teenagers jumping on a car opposite the belconnen police station didn’t deserve to be locked up by the operation unite orifices… even though constable / senior seargent / whatever number of stripes he got out of a cereal packet was standing across road watching… Guess because it wasn’t in Civic it wasn’t part of operation unite…
