Another short births column in the paper today, yielding only one truly boganised name.
Taylah Angela Keys: the middle name is perfectly nice but the first is a classic example of the “unique” spelling so unfortunately popular these days.

Cooper? It’s what she was drinking when the poor mite was conceived.
Okay, I forgot about Harper Lee (how embarrassing) but I STILL think it is a bit daft – there is also a girl called Cooper. Anyone care to defend that one?
Ceelan? It’s what she was staring at when the poor mite was conceived.
Someone I know from child’s daycare named their son Ceelan.
WTF? Where does that come from?
Harper Lee wrote To Kill a Mockingbird… if it’s a surname-firstname transposition it’s not a particularly new one.
Funnily enough, upper-crust names become boganised once the westies get hold of them. Names like Alexandrina, Charlotte and Sofia are really funny in outer suburbia. Those names were once never found west of Strathfield…now fat bogan mums in pink trakkies with tatts and fags hanging out of their mouths are pushing little Charlottes in their strollers. This means the eastern suburbs doctors’ wives will soon be the ones calling their kids Bryyanna, Geenah etc…
Surnames as first names are always bad (a girl at my son’s playgroup has the name of Harper. WTF??) But a bogan spelling of a surname as a firstname is particularly bad.
You could at least spell my name correctly Penfold :) View
