Yes, of course. Common sense should always prevail over laws that have a particular intention but aren’t always relevant. Laws are not sacred texts handed down by some being with supernatural wisdom; they’re there to improve order and opportunity. In a circumstance like this, where they would fail to do that, they should be circumvented.

Thankfully, if you look at the website now, the government has done just that. They’ve given permission for the market to use it for four weeks while they seek alternative accommodation, which is really good to see. Apparently, the Southern Cross Club is standing in the way now.

So, I should stop writing and start my hike to EPIC, or I’ll be stuck with half-rotten supermarket vegetables all week!

You don’t have to amend legislation. You just have to refrain from enforcing it. Half our laws are flouted on an ongoing basis anyway, so what’s the problem with ignoring one on a temporary basis?

If he really was genuinely committed to increasing competition, he’d allow temporary use of this venue while a new venue is found. The problem, of course, is that anything other than a mainstream supermarket is entirely beyond his ken.

There is an explanation on the site now. Apparently there is some ridiculous stipulation about what the stadium can be used for and what it can’t, and the markets breach this stipulation.

A couple of the stallholders went to the Woden Trash and Treas. It’s not as healthy though, as that market has the cigarette smoking, old ute drivers. I’d prefer to keep company w’ the hemp bag carrying non smoking mob.

I heard the same story from the egg people. They also said to keep an eye on the website for updates. At the moment, there is a short notice saying it’s not on today, but no detail.
