ACT Policing arrested a 55-year-old Campbell man for burglary and theft offences yesterday (24 January) evening.
Police attended a building site on Constitution Avenue, Parkes, after being alerted by an on-site security guard that a man was at that location allegedly stealing copper.
With the assistance of the on-site security guard, police located the man and conducted a search of his vehicle and located tools which were allegedly used in the offence.
“We’ve experienced a spate of copper thefts in the past three months and are encouraging anyone who may witness suspicious activity around building sites to contact police,” Acting Superintendent Matt Corbitt said.
The copper was valued at $5,000.
The man was arrested and conveyed to the City Watch House and was charged with burglary, theft and traffic offences. The man was granted bail and will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
