ACT Policing has arrested a 16-year-old youth after a vehicle pursuit occurred this morning (Saturday, 29 January).
Around 1:17am, members from Belconnen General Duties were conducting mobile patrols along Aikman Drive, Belconnen when they observed a white Holden Astra travelling at excessive speed travelling in the opposite direction.
Police located the vehicle at the intersection of Eastern Valley Way and College Street where they observed the vehicle turn right onto College Street against a red traffic signal arrow. Police have continued to follow the vehicle onto Hennessey Street.
Police have then activated the emergency lights in an attempt to pull the vehicle over. The vehicle has then accelerated away from police and a pursuit commenced.
Police pursued the vehicle along Hennessey Street, Eastern Valley Way, Bindubi Street and William Hovell Drive before the vehicle stopped near the Glenloch Interchange and the 16-year-old driver apprehended.
The youth was conveyed to the City Watch House and charged with traffic offences. Enquiries made by police indicate that the vehicle was stolen from an address in Charnwood on 19 January 2011.
The youth will face the ACT Childrens Court on Monday, 31 January.
