ACT Policing has arrested a 17-year-old driver with a number of traffic offences after a pursuit from Fyshwick to Richardson last night.
Around 11.40pm last night (February 2), police observed a silver coloured Mazda 626 sedan bearing no registration plates travelling in a north westerly direction along Tennant Street towards Gladstone Street in Fyshwick. Police activated warning lights and siren and followed the vehicle. The vehicle proceeded to travel through a red traffic arrow and red traffic light.
The driver was pursued through a number of Tuggeranong suburbs with stop sticks successfully being deployed by police in Richardson. The driver drove some distance on a nature strip, with a deflated tire, before stopping and abandoning the vehicle. The offender was found by police a short distance away.
The total time of the pursuit was 25 minutes and it covered a distance of 30km through very light traffic.
The driver was charged with driver manner dangerous, failing to stop, driving while disqualified and driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle. He was granted Watch House bail under strict conditions and will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on February 14.
