I am new to Canberra and need to bring a nice cake to a party.
Does anyone have a favorite bakery for cakes?
Thank you.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to help me out with the bakery cake question. They all sound great and I’ll try to get to them all, purely for research purposes.

A nice tart from Silo in Kingston; or a cake from Cornucopia in Braddon.
I second this motion.
Otherwise the apricot and almond tart from Dobinsons in Civic is very good.
flute – the orange chocolate round thingy – jaffa i think – $30 though – call them up to order.
Yep – I’m with the other replies. Flute is it – they do the most incredible macarons cake. Lovely gooey filling and the cake is topped with gorgeous little French macarons. People will gasp with delight! Lykke til!
a croquembouche from the cake sop in the civic interchange is sure to be a winner… otherwise, the flans at silo rock.
If you can get them to answer the phone (really, best just to show up at their store), try Annie’s Cake Place in Queanbeyan. Their store is cluttered and dated, but their cakes (and xmas puddings) are extremely good. They also can do creative stuff. An apprentice pastry chef I used to know was surprised on his 21st with a tower of cake decorated as a pastry chef (complete with bowl).
I normally wouldn’t do this because the good places are best kept secret otherwise they get too busy but this one is already busy, and pricey enough to keep away the people that prefer quantity over quality.
The Flute Bakery in Fyshwick
I won’t however be telling you my mechanic, landscaper, or favourite cafe.
For birthday cakes (and this year a Valentine’s Day cake!) I order from the bakery inside Kippax Shopping Fair, Holt. Called Top Something I think. They do anything I like, are reasonably priced and my two year old son just loves the owners.
However, to impress, you can’t go past Flute Bakery in Fyshwick (8 Barrier St). Each cake is a work of art and tastes divine.
