ACT Policing has arrested a 27-year-old New South Wales man over the alleged theft of copper tubing from a construction site in Fyshwick last night (Monday, March 28).
The man, from Eden on the NSW South Coast, was seen acting suspiciously and followed by a member of the public, who reported the incident to police.
The alleged offender’s vehicle was identified, and reported to police.
Shortly before midnight, police intercepted the vehicle in Fyshwick. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers saw lengths of copper tubing in the back, each over two metres long.
The man was arrested and later made admissions during an interview.
South District Superintendent Lesa Gale commended the member of the public who reported the incident.
“As a result of this phone call, ACT Policing was able to apprehend a suspect and recover alleged stolen property,” Superintendent Gale said.
“This is a positive result for ACT Policing that began with a vigilant member of the public making the decision to call the police.”
Police investigations are continuing.
