The best way to spend your Sunday? At sideway // music bar, an intimate venue with exciting wines, seasonal cocktails and local froths. Couple with the genre-bending sounds of Medschool and the healing music of Katrina Maree to create the ideal blend.
Headliners, Medschool met while studying jazz at university, but to label Medschool ‘strictly jazz’ would be a mistake. Their common love for house/electronica, post-punk, funk/soul and other popular styles of alternative music, have resulted in a distinctive sound. Medschool doesn’t aim to follow tradition. They make a statement, one worth hearing!
Performing as a three-piece band, Medschool consists of Dylan Slater on guitar & synth, Evan Marshalsey on bass guitar and Micah Heathwood on drums. The group have a wide repertoire of modern jazz and grooves, with a focus on their own original compositions.
Supporting Medschool on the night is Katrina Maree, the phenomenal bass player from Canberra’s The Black Souls.
Katrina Maree’s reignited passion for music led her to temporarily put down the bass guitar. Returning to her piano, Katrina Maree began composing songs directly from the heart. The result, the recent release of her debut EP, “Unrealised Dreams”.
With a mix of folk, roots, blues and a touch of jazz, Katrina Maree’s music is soothing to the soul. Her lyrics are poetic, telling stories of encouragement and hope.
Moving from keys to bass, Katrina Maree’s compositions with The Black Souls touch on rock, blues and progressive rock. Joining her on the night is Black Souls’ drummer Mongo and guitarist Bart Black.
Combine sideway, Medschool and Katrina Maree and the three will occasion a magical Sunday evening.
