ACT Policing will be targeting speeding motorists for the months of June and July as part of its ongoing traffic enforcement campaign.
The campaign targets traffic offences that contribute to death and serious injuries on Canberra’s roads. Speeding and drink driving continue to be a concern.
Traffic Operations Officer-in-Charge Sergeant Jeff Knight says he hopes to see a reduction in people caught speeding compared to February when police were targeting speeding drivers.
“Seven people have died on our roads this year, five involved speeding,” Sergeant Knight said.
“February’s targeted speeding campaign resulted in 1207 traffic infringement notices (TINs) being issued for speeding, an increase of 467 TINs compared with the same time in 2010.”
Only yesterday (Tuesday, May 31), a 29-year-old Melba man was caught speeding on Barry Drive on his Black Triumph motorcycle. Police detected the rider about 7.50 am travelling at 110km/h in a 60km/h zone, almost double the sign posted speed limit. He was issued with a TIN for $1811 and the loss of six demerit points.
