Take me where the money is

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an aggravated robbery at Woolworths Supermarket in Erindale early this morning (Sunday, June 5).

About 12.40am the male offender approached an employee outside the supermarket, producing a firearm and demanding the male employee to take him to where the money is.

The staff member has complied and led the offender to the safe, filling a bag with a large sum of money. The offender then fled onto Comrie Street.

The offender was wearing dark coloured clothing and a full face balaclava.

I worked at Coles for about 7 years as a checkout chick as well as Admin. I agree with the change float being the only thing readily available (which should only have a few hundred), money is constantly being sent up the chutes, especially at that late hour.

However, the chute safe itself could potentially be opened… the only person with that access would be the duty manager. No one else (other managers and admin staff) with that access would be working at that time.

With the high number of armed robberies in Canberra in the last few months, it is only a matter of time before someone decides to fight back and someone, hopefully the offender, gets hurt.

The Police seem to get nowhere in catching the offenders and when they do the judiciary uses the excuse that they had a bad childhood and says “Don’t be bad boy”.

The biggest problem is that when a shopkeeper does fight back – it will be them who suffers to the full extent of the law, while the criminals who have ruined many people’s lives through the numerous armed robberies this year will be allowed to walk free.

So let me get this straight, the staff member was filling a bag with a large sum of money on the way to the safe???
