A 24-year-old Griffith man has been arrested after the stolen vehicle he was driving crashed in Phillip yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, June 14).
About 3pm police observed a yellow Toyota Hilux fail to stop at a red light at the Yamba Drive and Launceston Street intersection in Phillip.
Police followed the vehicle along Yamba Drive towards the roundabout at the Melrose Drive intersection. As the vehicle entered the roundabout it crossed both lanes causing several vehicles to brake heavily. The driver of the stolen vehicle lost control and rolled onto the roof ending up on the grass area of the roundabout.
Ambulance officers attended to the driver and he was later taken to The Canberra Hospital where he was cleared of any injuries.
The 24-year-old male was taken to the ACT Watch House where he was charged with drive motor vehicle without consent, unlicensed driver, and negligent driving. He was given Watch House bail and will face ACT Magistrates Court on Friday, June 24.
