ACT Policing is investigating an aggravated burglary at Local Liquor in Calwell early today (Monday, June 20) in which a vehicle was used to force entry to the premises.
About 1.20am a white Holden Rodeo was used to force open the front door of the premises allowing two males to enter the store. The offenders have taken several bottles of alcohol and then left the area in the white Holden Rodeo which was later found in Kingston.
A number of other southside business premises were broken into overnight however no cash was kept on any of the premises and it appears only a charitable donation box containing a small amount of cash was stolen as well as six bottles of soft drink.
Officer in Charge of the Tuggeranong Police Station, Sergeant Rod Anderson, said the damage bill for the shop owners usually outweighs the value of items stolen in incidents such as these.
“Although very little was taken during these burglaries, there is still a considerable cost for the shop owners to repair the damage caused. The fact that a charitable donation box was stolen shows you the calibre of human beings we are dealing with,” he said.
Anyone who was in the area of any southside shopping centres in the early hours of this morning and saw any persons acting suspiciously or who may be able to assist with the investigation is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.
