Minister for Community Services Joy Burch has announced she’s looking for applicants for $250,000 worth of equipment for community groups (presumably the Liberal Party need not apply this time).

The 2011-12 Community Support and Infrastructure Grants program, administered by the Community Services Directorate, awards grants of between $10,000 and $20,000 to groups that contribute significantly to the local community.

“For example, in last year’s funding round Canberra Blind Society received money to help pay for new Braille equipment for visually impaired students,” Ms Burch said.

“Money was also awarded to organisations like the Welfare Rights and Legal Service for a new photocopier, the Alliance Church at Calwell to refurbish the community hall and Wanniassa Preschool Parents Association for new shade sails at the Wanniassa preschool playground.”

Ms Burch said she was looking forward to seeing applications again this year from a wide cross section of the community sector.

Applications close 15 August.
