Looking at her attack (or is that stack) pose, obviously has been retired from competitive skating for a long time.
Well, she did win the Aus championships* last in 2006 (six times overall?) so may have been retired from competition for 5 years or so. But, by all means, please go down to Woden and give her a few of your expert tips in lieu of wisecracks from the safe anonymity of your RA keyboard! 🙂
* I suppose the Aus champs may be not ‘big time’, but perhaps you should list your skating pedigree so she knows the level of tips she’s likely to get from you! i.e You could have signed off your comment with: “3 times world figure skating champ”, or whatever your creds are…
That was years ago she well past her prime, a has-been. What has she won recently?
I don’t think much of the ACT government. But this was a good idea. I like what they’ve done. I was there on Saturday night and saw some of a performance. It was great! It felt a little bit like being in a movie, if I’m honest.

I couldn’t agree more!

It has been a bit of a “whoosh” moment for yar then?
Well, if you mean your original comment was a clever joke of some sort then, yes, ‘whoosh’ for me! I certainly didn’t (and still don’t) get the joke there. As i’m kinda new to RA, perhaps it was just a bit too subtle for me!

It’s worth going. The hire skates are terrific – brand spanking new, latest fastenings (no shoelaces). For the little ones they get dual inline skates they fit to their shoes although the velcro isn’t the greatest. The ice is smoothed off after each session but it does get rough after 2 hours of clockwise skating.
While you can hire ‘skate penguins’ for stability for the little ones they did tire of them and I eventually gave them away to grateful parents.
If you have kids, don’t bother showing up 30 mins early as they request as they tell you to go away for until 15 mins before your session. It’s a long 15 mins with the kids busting to get on the ice. If I was the skate hire place I’d have setup a hot chocolate/coffee stand within the enclosure. Profit!
Compared to the Woden rink – they don’t seem to have renovated anything since i went to highschool and that’s a long time ago.
I took my eldest today. Its a bit of fun, a bit expensive ($27 for the both of us). The surface was pretty rough at that time of the day, but thankfully I didn’t fall over !!! If the aim was to get people into the city, it worked. I have been in civic the last 3 weekends and it was dead (canberra centre was packed though) but today there were people everywhere.
Little inlymbo and I went today. Had a fantastic time. A good size skating crowd, never felt like too many. Got a bit slippery on the sun side, but crew involved stood over the worst areas (gone once the shade came across) to stop too much carnage. The skill level of all skaters seemed to be low which was great, made for many smiles, lots of falls and heaps of people enjoying the time together. People helped strangers up and everyone was very courteous. The fake snow was a heap of fun too. Little inlymbo wore the skates with two blades that attached to the shoes and used a ‘skate penguin’ for stability. What more can I say other than……
Well conceived, well thought out and executed beautifully!
The smile is still on both our diles. Can’t wait to go again.

or it could be the photographer mistimed the photo and she was either just entering or just leaving the pose.
When I walked past last night it looked fairly busy. It will be interesting to see how it’s going later in the month.

Well you know how freezing something preserves it… I guess spending hours on ice every day practicing has the same effect?

It’s a cool idea (yeah yeah) but I’m guessing that little space will be packed so tight that if she struck that pose again, she’d take down a dozen people…
As I understand it they’re selling limited numbers of tickets per session to avoid this. Might go in to town later and have a look for myself!

Why so? I think it’s a great idea. Don’t have time this weekend, but I’m looking forward to using it.

Don’t go then peanut. Save it for the people who aren’t miserable and strapped to the D&D table in the cooler months

Sorry Stevian, can you remind me of your ideas to liven up Civic during winter and how you went about implementing these?

Hm, I can already see a couple of pools on that ice. I wonder how it will hold up in the winter sun.
It looked all nicely frozen this evening. I suspect they only started cooling it down earlier today.

If the drunks are artistic they will do “fairy rings” which will impress Treasurer Barr.
