ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an assault of a taxi driver in Kingston early this morning (Saturday, July 9).
Around 4.10am police attended Giles Street in Kingston after the report of a taxi driver being assaulted by up to four males at that location. Police attended the scene and found the 33-year-old taxi driver with a serious laceration to his mouth as well as bruising and swelling to his face.
Police searched the area and located three males hiding in bushes a short distance away. The males were arrested and conveyed to the Woden Police Station along with a fourth male, who had remained near the taxi after the assault.
Two adult males and two male youths are currently assisting police with enquiries in relation to the assault.
Superintendent Mick Calatzis said that over the last four weeks there have been four separate incidents involving taxi drivers either being assaulted or robbed.
“It’s particularly concerning that over the last four weeks there have been four incidents involving taxi drivers either being assaulted or robbed. Police will continue to meet with representatives of the taxi industry about reducing drivers’ exposure to these sorts of crimes,” he said.
Police urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
