Canberra CBD has tweeted that the much loved Mamas Trattoria has re-opened in the Melbourne building.
Meanwhile the old Mamas site in Garema Place is being re-fitted to emerge as a new, much needed, bar under the name of Honkytonks.

Just jogged past water’s edge tonight. Looked like it was being refurbished. Has it closed down too?
So what kind of bar can we expect? Have never been to its namesake in Melbourne, but the name Honkytonks implies a piano bar?

I first noticed the new Mama’s there 2 or 3 weeks ago. And I’m guessing Sabayon has closed down – http://www.Sabayon.com.au just goes to an entry page with links to Courgette and Waters Edge – all mention of Sabayon seems to be gone.
Wow, the pilfering of bar names continues… Canberra’s attempt at a Honkytonks could only dream of living up to the standard set by the Melbourne incarnation (RIP).
