ACT Policing is investigating a number of suspicious fires in the Woden and Tuggeranong areas which occurred yesterday evening (Sunday, August 21).
Between 5.30 pm and midnight, police received numerous reports of fires to playground equipment (Gordon), trees (Tuggeranong Skate Park), wheelie bins (Kambah, Weston and Rivett), a car (Weston) and two electrical service pillars (Bonython and Banks). One of the service pillars damaged, in Banks, caused approximately 30 homes to lose power and will cost $5000 to repair.
Police believe these fires are linked.
About 12.25 am police located a white Holden Commodore with three teenagers inside which a witness had seen near one of the fires.
A 17-year-old and two 18-year-old boys were arrested by police however were later released. Police seized clothing for forensic examination and other items of evidentiary value.
Investigations are continuing with possible charges to be laid at a later date.
