ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to two incidents of arson and property damage in Calwell and Richardson last week.
Around 9.50pm on Friday (September 16), a fire was deliberately lit on a number of timber pallets positioned against a wall in the dock area of Woolworths supermarket in Calwell, causing significant damage to the wall and stock from the supermarket.
CCTV footage shows four males running from the supermarket into the rear car park of the Calwell Club and leave in two vehicles.
Around 10.05pm, a second fire was lit in a wheelie bin outside the IGA supermarket in Richardson. CCTV footage depicts a group of five males leaving the scene, four of whom appear similar to those depicted in the CCTV footage from Calwell.
The damage from the two fires is estimated at $90,000.
The first male offender is described as being 16-18 years old, approximately 173cm (5’8”) tall, with an athletic build and tanned skin. He was wearing a black hooded jumper and dark shorts with a white vertical stripe.
The second male is described as being 16-18 years old, approximately 170cm (5’7”) tall, with a stocky build and tanned skin. He was wearing a white hooded jumper and dark tracksuit pants with a white vertical stripe.
The third male is described as being 16-18 years old, approximately 170cm (5’7”) tall, with a medium build and tanned skin. He was wearing a navy hooded jumper and dark long pants.
The fourth male is described as being 16-18 years old, approximately 175cm (5’9”) tall, with wavy brown hair and was wearing a dark hooded jumper and dark tracksuit pants.
The fifth male, depicted in the CCTV footage from Richardson, is described as being 16-18 years old, approximately 168cm (5’6”) tall, with a slim build and was wearing a black hooded jumper and denim shorts.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed either of the above incidents of property damage or arson, or saw anyone matching the above descriptions in the Calwell and Richardson areas to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.
