Thx to the RA brains trust, thx very much.
I can now tag the pic in flickr!! and sleep better at nights. RA rules!
I always assumed that these south American style bands were a form of busking franchise – you could send away a cheque and a few weeks later you’d get a big box containing a bunch of poncho’s, some wooden flutes and other ‘traditional’ looking instruments, you’re sheet music, stick on moustaches and goatee beards (traditional looking hats come with long hair already attached), the obligatory “how to” DVD along with a bonus, allegedly best selling, book detailing tips and tricks and a box of CDs to sell.
Aren’t they Walisuma de los Andes? (Google for it.) At least, I bought a couple of CDs from very similar-looking guys in a band with that name a couple of years ago (the guy on the far left is very familar). Maybe they formed a different group with some new members, I dunno.
I think it may be Inka Marka, but one mob of blokes in ponchos looks much the same as another. I own a CD they sold at one of the Garema Place performances – not at all unpleasant.
I think they should rename themselves to Alexander Downer Nude. Catchy title.
Actually, I just found a picture of them wearing the same clothes on their blog. So I am pretty confident they are called Inka Marka
It is possible they are called “Inka Marka”, I chucked the words ‘south american band canberra’ into google and it was one that came up. They look kind of similar but a bit more scruffy.

Don’t get angry if I’m wrong, I did try and make a bit of effort for you 🙂
I’m sure I saw those guys playing centre stage at Belco Mall on numerous occasions last summer. I have heard their name but can’t remember it. Sorry!
I was there a few months ago with some friends and there was a guy performing by himself, just an acoustic/electric guitar and singing. Did some really nice plucking type finger work.
Some of the performers they have there are surprisingly good.
