Members from ACT Policing’s Criminal Investigations (CI) and Traffic Operations (TOPs) are gearing up to play in a modified rules charity cricket match today (Monday, December 19).
The cricket match is to raise money for a member’s 5-year-old daughter, Sarah, who has recently been diagnosed with leukaemia.
The match is being held at the enclosed playing fields, on the corner of MacArthur Avenue and Pedder Street, O’Connor, from 10am.
The cricket rivalry between Criminal Investigations and Traffic Operations is a long-standing one, with the detectives winning on the past three occasions.
All money raised will go toward the Carpenter family to assist with medical treatment.
Constable Kenny Koala will be a guest umpire and Constable Kip Koala will bowl a couple of overs. The game has been modified with 12 players on each side, 30 overs bowled in each innings, with 6 batting pairs.
Deputy Chief Police Officer David McLean will be present the winning team with the TOPs -v- CI Shield, and also the Alan Kingston Memorial Shield for the player of the match.
Donations can be made into account name of O’Sullivan & Johnson Carpenter Fundraising Account, Account number 144 467 958, BSB 633 000 at the Bendigo Bank.
