A 20-year-old man was arrested by police for dangerous driving and other traffic-related offences following a pursuit in North Canberra on Friday night (December 29).
Police will allege around 7.40pm on Friday, the man was driving a white Holden utility on Ellenborough Street in Kaleen and accelerated away when he saw a police vehicle.
A pursuit commenced, which continued along the Barton Highway and Federal Highway, and stopped near the off ramp to Horse Park Drive. The pursuit lasted a total of four minutes and reached a maximum speed of 145km/hr.
Around 4.45pm yesterday (Saturday, December 30), police attended a house on Majura Road after an off-duty member spotted the Holden utility at the location. Police spoke with the man, who initially stated someone else drove the vehicle on Friday, but was unable to provide any details of this person other than a first name.
Further inconsistencies in the man’s story led police to arrest the man for dangerous driving, and he admitted to being the driver involved in the pursuit on Friday.
He was taken to the ACT Watch House and charged with dangerous driving, using an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, driving with a suspended licence and stating false information to police.
He was bailed from the ACT Watch House, and will face the ACT Magistrates Court on January 12.
