ACT Policing was pleased with the Australia Day in the Park celebrations yesterday (Thursday, January 26) with only one person taken into custody.
One adult man was taken into custody at the fireworks display for being intoxicated and disorderly. No juveniles were taken into protective custody.
Operational Commander Sergeant Matt Corbitt was pleased with the crowd behaviour at the event, and this was evident in the low number of arrests.
At this year’s Australia Day in the Park event, no juveniles were apprehended by ACT Policing for underage drinking. This is an improvement on last year where six juveniles were apprehended for alcohol-related incidents.”
“The low number of arrests showed the crowd celebrated Australia Day responsibly, and enjoyed the family-friendly event,” Sergeant Corbitt said.
In a separate incident, around 1.30am today (Friday, January 27) police attended Derham Court in Wanniassa where a white Mitsubishi Lancer had collided with a tree. The driver, a 34-year-old woman and her 13-year-old son were not injured in the collision.
The woman underwent a roadside screening test, and returned a positive result. She was taken to the Tuggeranong Police Station, where she returned a result of 0.158. She will be summonsed to face the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
