ACT Policing has arrested and charged a 29-year-old Narrabundah man with several traffic offences, including reckless/dangerous/furious driving after he abandoned his vehicle and attempted to flee on a pushbike.
Around 1:30pm yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, March 6), police were patrolling around The Canberra Hospital when they observed the man driving a blue Holden Commodore, when he was known to have his licence disqualified.
The officers followed the Commodore and attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The Commodore accelerated away from the officers and started to drive in a dangerous manner towards other road users. The officers then terminated the pursuit.
ACT Policing Operations received a number of phone calls from the community relating to the driving manner of the Holden Commodore. This information was relayed to the officers, who were able to establish a cordon around the suburbs of Kingston, Deakin, Forrest, Red Hill, Griffith and Symonston.
Around 1:55pm the man was seen to leave Stuart Flats on a pushbike but he evaded capture.
Around 2pm officers again sighted the male, riding along Manuka Circle. The man was followed along Currie Street, Kingston, where he was apprehended by Specialist Response and Security officers.
The man was conveyed to the ACT Watch House and charged with a number of driving offences. He is expected to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court this morning where police will be opposing bail.
