Couldn’t get better images as I was too scared to get close to it.
I saw one in my yard the other week and was too scared to get close to it to take a photo – glad I’m not the only one who thinks they are revolting!
I have nothing against bugs in general, I am usually quite happy to get close and take some macro shots, but watching this thing in motion made me feel physically ill.

It’s apparently a mole cricket, and they’re harmless! I’ve seen another one since then as well. Maybe all the wet weather is driving them up out of the ground?
