This morning we sighted a red biplane progressing across the Canberra sky and even managed to get a photograph which considering the distance we’re pretty happy with.
Any plane nerds want to hazard an identification?

there’s only 11 registered TM’s in Australia and none in the ACT so it must have been flown in.
saw this when i was at the dog park as well, i though Tiger Moth, but then i was like it doesn’t sound like one, seeing as there is a yellow/organge one in canberra and it has a very different sound to this one.

It looks like a mail plane.
How can you tell?
“Well, didnt you notice the little balls?”
You beat me to it – classic movie.
Groaning and giggling for the rest of the day because that was so hackneyed.
I’d say it’s a Moth, leaning toward Tiger due to its likely age, it’s sprung suspension wheels and it’s apparent swept-wing. Be very happy for correction tho.

Ah, damn that moderation time delay… Signs of a misspent youth, Thumper?! 😉
It’s very pretty, whatever sort it is. Somehow planes like this look more like planes should look.
I’ll bite… Looks a lot like a Tiger Moth: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Havilland_Tiger_Moth
Considering that the anniversary of Red Barons death is only 5 days away, will suspect that this has brought out this gem.
