Stolen Meteor turns the lights out in Hume

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses after a stolen white Ford Meteor collided with the ACTEWAGL electricity substation in Hume yesterday morning (May 12).

Around 3am, the Ford Meteor, with two occupants collided with the substation on Tralee Street, causing extensive damage to the vehicle and substation.

As a result of the damage to the substation, some areas of Hume experienced electricity interruptions.

Police are urging anyone that may have witnessed the collision or can assist in the investigation to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800333000, or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

Sometimes the headline is so much more exciting than the story. Nary an astronaut, let alone an alien. Not even a stolen small body of matter from outer space, or a chase by a Space Marshall. Sigh.

Doesn’t even need to be pushed – i have seen a meteor started with a teaspoon. Once those old cars have been stolen and the ignition has been smacked in a bit you can start them with just about anything.

Dvaey you’re thinking of a zone substation. Substations are the shoulder/head height large green square boxes around town. I remember the accident in Kambah a few years ago where a biker put himself into one.

I know crims aren’t always the brightest, but out of all the cars in Canberra, why would you steal a Meteor?

Just out of interest, where is the substation on Tralee St? The nearest I can think of is about 500m away near Rose Cottage, but that wouldnt be real easy to get to and would affect more than the hume area.
