ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an aggravated robbery which occurred last night (Sunday, May 13) in Weston.
Around 6.45pm a 29-year-old man was walking along the bicycle path on the Weston Creek side of Hindmarsh Drive, near the Tuggeranong Parkway underpass, when he was confronted by a man. The male offender demanded the victim hand over his wallet. The victim initially refused and was then stabbed in the stomach by the man with what appeared to be a pocket knife.
After the victim was stabbed he threw his wallet in front of the offender. The offender picked up the wallet and fled the scene. The victim was conveyed to The Canberra Hospital and is in a stable condition.
The male offender is described as being Caucasian in appearance and around 30-years-of-age, with a thin build and stubble on his face. He was wearing a white or grey coloured jumper.
Detective Superintendent Brett McCann said it’s important to remember your safety comes first in situations such as this.
“If a person makes a demand for your wallet or purse and is carrying a weapon, then don’t resist. No amount of money or your possessions is worth risking your safety for,” Detective Superintendent McCann said.
Police are urging anyone who may be able to assist with the investigation to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the website at www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.
